Jill remembers her last night with her husband, Ben, as she wonders how to get on with her life and care for their child alone.

Sample paragraph:

Jill sat at the edge of the vast meadow on a fallen tree. She didn’t see the beauty in front of her or smell the faint odor of the rotting log beneath her. She had come to this place, her favorite since early childhood, to find some peace. All she had found so far was an emptiness she had never felt before. His words kept playing over and over in her mind. His last words. As painful as they were, she couldn’t seem to let them go. They hadn’t been kind words, but she needed them now. No matter what they were. She needed them.
